Through the Storm (Farne Islands - Northumberland)
This piece is inspired by a trip to the Farne Islands off the Northumberland coast. These magical collection of islands provide refuge to hundreds upon hundreds of migrant sea birds - terns and puffins amongst them.
The islands sit low in the sea and turbulent winter waters come crashing onto their shorelines, a very hazardous place for seafarers! There are a number of lighthouses in this area, sentinels against the elements, guardians of the seafarers, sending out this signal far into the darkness, warning of treacherous waters, peppered with rocky outcrops which have claimed so many over the centuries.
