This piece is inspired by a walk up Pen-Y-Ghent, not on a clear blue sky day, not my kind of weather, but instead a wet and very blustery day – the kind of day where the rain stings your eyes and the wind either drives you from behind or keeps you stood still as you try to battle forward!
I recall the stone steps, long embedded into the hillside, vanishing up towards the vague outline of the horizon, softened by the low cloud. Standing on the edge of the slope, tilted downhill arms stretched wide, with only the strength of the wind stopping me from falling forward and downward. The rain lashed in horizontally blurring the rough grasses and heathers into a wash of winter/spring hues.
