Winter Storm (Robin Hoods Bay - Yorkshire Coast)
On the day I visited, the bay was in the grips of a winter snow/sleet/rain downpour. The wind was not only strong but bitterly cold, the kind that cuts right through you to the core. I do recall being so, so cold, but the experience was also exhilarating and this spurred me on to continue down to the bay.
When I reached the bay I was met by an almost calm sea, with distant waves breaking, although the harsh winds whipped up a froth of sea spray as the water met the shore. The drama was however certainly in the sky, with the wind, rain, sleet and snow continuing down.
The seagulls in the distance were being put to the test and darted across the sky, lit up like white flecks against a dark canvas as the sun shards caught them in flight. In the distance the sky was clearing giving glimpses of the blues beyond the storm clouds.
My work aims to capture the light, form and drama of the landscape, something I loved in Turners work.
