Artwork overview

Winter Storm II (Top Withens - Bronte Country)

This painting was inspired by an 8 mile round trip walk my friend Mike and I undertook back in January 2015, from Haworth up to Top Withens and back. The conditions were perfect…bleak snow specked moorland, windswept in its winter hues of umber and ochre tones, picked out by the fleeting shards of light that cut through the rolling deep grey stormy skies.  Harsh bitter winter winds that cut right through us and sleet that stung as it lashed against our faces.  My kind of weather!

Hopefully when you stand in front of this painting you can feel some of the exhilaration we felt at the time, but perhaps without the bitter cold and not left ruddy faced!

My work aims to capture the light, form and drama of the landscape, something I loved in Turners work.
