Winter Sky (Top Withens - Bronte Country)
Top Withens was one of the subjects of my degree show (many years ago) and returning to this place early 2015 brought back a lot of memories. The weather was perfect for the kind of painting I had in mind, although the temperature was about 10 degrees colder than I would have liked and we were walking head on into a barrage of rain and sleet that stung our faces.
The landscape in this part of Bronte country is both barren and beautiful, with sweeping hills and muted heather, bracken and grass tones upon which the ever changing light plays, darting over the landscape like a search light.
