Stormy Skies (Dunstanburgh Castle - Northumberland)
I visited the Northumberland coast for the first time in 2017 and was astounded by the beauty of this coastal landscape. From vast open sandy beaches to rocky outcrops strewn with boulders formed as the power of the tide erodes the volcanic rocks in this area.
The ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle instantly caught my eye; perched on the cliff top, its silhouette dominating the horizon. This landscape has an almost mystical feel to it, but also a mass of geological fascination, with the tall volcanic cliff leading into the distance, whilst the eye is drawn to the foreground and the almost surreal boulder strewn water line, soon to be reached by the incoming tide, that has already started to replenish the many rock pools.
